Legum Healing Justice is trauma-informed community development, integrating psychosocial support, peacebuilding, legal empowerment, women's empowerment, youth engagement, and economic resilience into one community-led model, delivered through trusted local partners.
The model
Six threads, one programme.
Most community development programmes pick a lane: legal aid, or mental health, or livelihoods. Healing Justice treats these as inseparable. A woman cannot exercise a legal right while in psychological crisis. A community cannot sustain peace without an economic base. Healing Justice is designed so that each thread reinforces the others, delivered by partners embedded in the community rather than by Legum directly.
Psychosocial support
Mental-health support and trauma-informed care, delivered by trained local partners.
Peacebuilding
Community-led conflict resolution and governance structures.
Legal empowerment
Rights awareness and pathways into formal legal support.
Women's empowerment
Economic and social agency for women within the community.
Youth engagement
Structured participation for young people in community decisions.

Livelihood models suited to the local economy, not imported ones.
Flagship pilot
Gyel Community, Jos South.
Our Healing Justice pilot in Plateau State covers mental-health and psychosocial support, legal aid and rights awareness, women's empowerment, youth development, pastoral care, agricultural livelihood initiatives, and community-led governance structures. It includes a fonio-focused livelihood model and a decision-support system for transparent resource allocation.
Why Gyel. The pilot was scoped for a community carrying the layered pressures the Healing Justice model is built for: displacement-adjacent instability, limited access to formal legal support, and an agricultural economy in need of a sustainable, locally-suited crop model. Fonio was selected as the anchor crop for its low input requirements and resilience in the local growing conditions.
Strategic partnership
Sisters of Esther.
Legum Healing Justice has entered into a strategic partnership with Sisters of Esther, structured to protect vulnerable young women through complementary strengths: Sisters of Esther delivers rescue, restoration, discipleship, and reintegration; Legum Healing Justice builds the safeguarding, legal, research, and referral systems that stand behind that work.
Measurement
Impact model applied.
Individuals, communities, institutions, systems. In Healing Justice, that means a beneficiary receiving psychosocial support, a community with an active governance structure, a local partner operating under a documented safeguarding standard, and a resource-allocation model that can be replicated in the next community.
Aligned to UN SDGs 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 16, and 17. A measurement, evaluation, and learning framework is applied from inception.
